Students will read pages 172-173 in their textbooks (Illinois and Our Nation, Volume 2) about the different types of landforms found in Illinois.
Next, students will create an Interactive Journal Page representing the four most prominent landforms present in Illinois. They will create a "flat page' in their spirals with the map of Illinois on the left and the four flap landform foldable on the right.
Students will draw the symbols they will use to represent each landform on the front of the flaps. Underneath the flaps, they will write definitions for each landforms.
Students may want to use markers to make some of the features dark enough to see.
This will be an important resource for the final project - the 3D relief map of Illinois they will be responsible for creating.
DSS is a standards-based Social Studies Curriculum for 4th Grade Educators in Illinois.
