In this experiential learning activity, students will explore several maps of Illinois and surrounding regions dating from 1873 to more modern times. Students will use the map skills they have gained along with some critical thinking skills to answer questions about historical maps of Illinois.
Students will need access to computers or tablets to view this slideshow of 5 map images.
They will also need an Exploration Activity Worksheet to complete. This can be used for a grade, or as guided practice.
Finally, an Answer Key for the Exploration Activity Worksheet is available here.
DSS is a standards-based Social Studies Curriculum for 4th Grade Educators in Illinois.
