During this lesson, students will experience an interactive Prezi timeline that highlights 14 of the most influential people in Illinois history. Each slide showcases a photograph of the person, as well as a few brief biographical points about him or her.
The 14 people are: Jacques Marquette, Louis Jolliet, Chief Black Hawk, Shadrach Bond, John Deere, Roswell B. Mason, Abraham Lincoln, William Le Baron Jenney, Daniel Burnham, Jane Addams, Enrico Fermi, Richard J. Daley, Seymour Simon and JB Pritzker
The teacher should further explain how the accomplishments of each individual helped shape Illinois.
Students will also have an interactive journal foldable on these Important Figures of Illinois to complete while they observe the slideshow. Teachers can decide how they wish to complete this. It is a simple foldable with space for students to take a few notes, summarizing each of the accomplishments of the figures.
This lesson does not have formal assessment, but is preparation for the next lesson, a Guess Who game that reinforces the facts about these figures.
DSS is a standards-based Social Studies Curriculum for 4th Grade Educators in Illinois.
