Students will first read the article Three Branches of Government which describes the important information about our Federal Government's structural systems.
After or during the reading (depending on how the teacher chooses), students will complete the Interactive Journal Page on the 3 Branches. They will create a "horizontal flat page" with the Constitution on the top page and the three branches on the bottom page. The three arrows are used to point from the Constitution to the three branches below. Please see the Interactive Journal reference slide for a model.
There is also a 5-question quick check, asking the students to recall what they learned about the branches of government. This could be used for a grade, for homework or as guided practice. An Answer Key for this worksheet is also available.
DSS is a standards-based Social Studies Curriculum for 4th Grade Educators in Illinois.
